Camera inspectionsSee inside your ducts before you decide.

A small camera on a flexible cable shows you what is really in the ductwork, so the decision to clean is made with your own eyes.

In a basement beside the furnace, a technician shows an older homeowner a tablet with a camera view from inside the ductwork.
The short answer

A duct camera inspection feeds a small camera into your ductwork to show dust and debris, loose joints, crushed sections and signs of pests or moisture in the runs it can reach. It cannot see everywhere and is not a furnace diagnosis, but it helps you decide whether a cleaning is needed.

What happens during a camera inspection?

We feed a small camera on a flexible cable into the ductwork through a register or an existing opening, and look at the pictures on a screen with you. We start with the runs nearest the furnace, where buildup tends to be heaviest, and then check the other areas the camera can reach. We explain what we are seeing as we go.

What can a camera show?

  • Dust, lint, pet hair and debris, and how much there is
  • Construction dust left after a remodel
  • Disconnected, loose or crushed sections
  • Signs of mice or other pests
  • Moisture or staining that should be looked at by a professional

It cannot confirm mold, which needs lab testing, and it only sees the runs it can reach. More in what a duct camera inspection can show.

When is an inspection worth it?

When you are not sure whether a cleaning is needed. After a remodel, before or after you move in, when you notice dust at the registers or a strange smell, or when you suspect pests. If the ducts look clean, you may not need a cleaning at all, and we would rather tell you so.

What happens afterward?

We tell you what we saw in plain language. If cleaning makes sense we quote it in writing, and if the camera shows damage or moisture we point you to the right kind of professional. Ask us whether photos or video can be shared after the visit.

Before you ask

Common questions.

Does a camera inspection replace a cleaning?

No. It tells you whether a cleaning is needed. If the ducts look clean, you may not need one.

Will the camera find mold?

It can show growth or staining that looks suspicious. Only a lab test confirms mold, and the moisture source has to be found and fixed.

Can a dryer vent be inspected too?

Often yes for straight or gently bent runs. Very long or tight runs can be harder to see. Tell us about your vent when you get in touch.

What does an inspection cost?

It depends on the home and the number of runs to check. Email us your town and a few details and we will quote in writing.
